fuckyeahhistorycrushes: Xenophon (c. 430 - 354 BC), an Athenian exile, writer, professional solider, philosopher, and bad ass. He knew several of the men who shaped the last years of fifth century and early fourth century BC personally, including Cyrus the Younger and Socrates. He was chosen to continue the unfinished history of Thucydides, and is known for preserving the sayings of Socrates, and invaluable accounts of the Persian empire. For decades the Anabasis of Xenophon has  guided countless Attic Greek students (including myself) through their early years of study. There’s just something about an intellectual dude who can also lead hundreds of men through a hostile country. For all these reasons and more Xenophon is my history crush.
